This is a sermon I received in a dream on June 10^th, 2003. I copied it down as accurately as possible. This doesn't happen often, this is only the second time so far, but I believe when I can take notes on myself preaching without having to study, something significant is taking place. I believe this is a message God wants me to preach, AMEN?!

 

Vessel is useful for two things, to be filled and to be poured out.

 

What is the purpose of anointing? Consecration: Ex. 25.7 And you shall take the anointing oil, pour it on his head, and anoint him. 9 And you shall gird them with sashes, Aaron and his sons, and put the hats on them. The priesthood shall be theirs for a perpetual statute. So you shall consecrate Aaron and his sons. Deliverance: Is. 10.27 It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil. Preaching, healing, comfort: Is. 61.1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn. Healing, doing good: Acts 10.38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. Revelation: 1 Jn. 2.20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

 

Some may be concerned that some of these scriptures refer to Jesus. Well, the apostle John told us in 1 Jn. 4.17 that "because as He is, so are we in this world."

 

Jer. 18.1-10 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying: “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.” Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make. Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the Lord. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel! The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it. And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it. I heard the Lord say to us, "Your vessel is ready to be taken off the wheel and be used. You're so dizzy from going 'round and 'round that you have motion sickness. Get ready, because I am going to start using you soon."

 

Remember, God's timing isn't ours, and His is what counts. But the time is sooner than ever before where He is going to use His body and you individually like never before.

 

(Show the gravy bowl) Some of us have peculiar uses. Don't you know that if you were this gravy bowl, around all the 'normal' vessels, you could be tempted to think -- why am I so strange? Why do I have to be different? I have learned to say, "why be normal, what is normal, other than a setting on a washer or dryer?" Don't you know that to be a gravy bowl takes more time than to be a glass or a plate or something 'normal'? Don't get frustrated with what God is making out of you or how long He is taking. There is a purpose.

 

2 Tim. 2.19-21 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity. (doing what I want)” But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. God wants to raise the level of quality in each and every one of us. According to this passage in 2 Tim. Some of that depends on us, and as we just read in Jer., some depends on God.

 

2 Kings 4.1-7 A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil. ”Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.” So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.” Like the widow and Elisha, we need to get as many vessels as possible, i.e fill up as much as you can, get while the getting is good. This was a desperate situation. Are you in one? The anointing is the answer. How many situations can you think of? Hints: neighbors, workmates, our church, city, nation, world…. The key is getting desperate with God and getting ahold of Him.

 

Zech. 4.1 Now the angel who talked with me came back and wakened me, as a man who is wakened out of his sleep. 2 And he said to me, “What do you see?” So I said, “I am looking, and there is a lampstand of solid gold with a bowl on top of it, and on the stand seven lamps with seven pipes to the seven lamps. 3 Two olive trees are by it, one at the right of the bowl and the other at its left.” 4 So I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me, saying, “What are these, my lord?” 5 Then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” And I said, “No, my lord.” 6 So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts. 7 ‘Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone with shouts of “Grace, grace to it!” ’ ”Be connected 24/7 for constant flow, and have pure pipes.

 

1 Cor. 15.6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. Acts 1.15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty). 500 when J.C/ ascended -- only 120 in uppeer room. On the Day of Pentecost, I wonder who missed going up  & why -- maybe had gone for years and years, missing just this once won't hurt…. Or maybe they just couldn't be bothered, nothing exciting was going to happen, just being obedient….

 

Mt. 25.1-13 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. There were 5 foolish virgins and 5 wise. The 5 wise could get their own anointing, knew how and had it, had paid the price. Neither of the parties knew when bridegroom was coming or that the door would be shut and they all fell asleep. Are we ready, have we paid the price?

Know when, where, and how to get your own anointing. Better than the virgins, be a watchman!! 

 

2 Cor 4.7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. An earthen vessel is:

 

Fragile -- show crack and chip in bowl

Fallible -- (drop bowl) -- if it happens, repent, confess and don't sweat it. God will do what is necessary to get us back. (Explain the cycle of clay….) We are more concerned with our earthenness than God is.

Mt. 9.17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” Wineskins can only be renewed by soaking in a river while the water flows through. Any ideas how that applies? Revival is costly. It is a sovereign move of God, but we must do our part to be ready. Tonight God is calling for more -- more quality, more quantity, more responsibility, higher calling, fresh wineskins. How will we answer Him? Tonight isn't the key, but it's a start. It's tomorrow morning, Tues. night, Thurs. afternoon, etc. that matters. In other words, how will we continually live our lives.
