I am missing my father terribly this Fatherís Day, 1999. He passed away Nov. 9, 1997, a year and a half ago. I had just moved back into town a week before he died unexpectedly. I rejoice that I had that time to be with him. I regret that I didn't take the time to hug him or tell him I loved him before he passed away in the middle of the night. I wish he could be here today so that I could love on him, but he is in a far better place. I stayed home from church today because I needed some more time to grieve my loss.

As I was thinking about Dad, I was moved to do a search in the Bible about our Father God. This is what I came up with. I know there are many missing their father today. There are more who donít have a dad or whose dad is abusive or absent in one way or another. To all of you I pass this along. I encourage you to pass this along to others as well. No earthly father can be perfect. None. So if your father did some things that hurt or were hard, that just gives us more reason to look to our Father in Heaven!

As you will read, our Father God is always with us, always doing what is best for us, always caring for us. So, join me, wonít you, in drawing close to our Father in heaven and within us, today. He wonít ever leave or hurt us. He is a true source of comfort.

One last note, if your father is still around, be sure to take some extra time to communicate with him and love on him. You donít know how much longer the two of you will have. Ask him any thing youíve always wanted to know about his past or present. Let him know how much he has affected you life. Trust me, it will be worth your while, something you will never regret.

I dedicate this to my Dad, Paul H. Nelson, 1918-1997, in loving memory.

=========================================================

Is. 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. He is always there for us.

Matt. 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That you may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 48 Be therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. See how caring our Father is, He takes care of His enemies as well as His friends. He will do the same for us.

Matt. 6:4 That your alms may be in secret: and your Father which sees in secret himself shall reward you openly. 6 But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly. 8 Be not therefore like them: for your Father knows what things you have need of, before you ask him. 9 Pray after this manner: Our Father which is in heaven, Hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For your is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. 18 That you appear not unto men to fast, but unto your Father which is in secret: and your Father, which sees in secret, shall reward you openly. 26 Behold, the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. Our heavenly Father will reward us openly (maybe your earthly Father did little of that) what He sees in secret. He sees all -- He can't keep His eyes off of us! He is well aware of our needs and will provide well for us. He's holy -- meaning there is no bad in Him. What a relief!

Matt. 7:11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Matt. 10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what you shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what you shall speak. 20 For it is not you that speaks, but the Spirit of your Father which speaks in you. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows. The Spirit of our Father is always ready and available to guide us. Nothing takes Him by surprise; He is prepared for whatever transpires in our lives.

Matt. 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hid these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them unto babes.

Matt. 12:50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. Not only are we children of our Father, but Jesus is our brother. What a bargain!

Matt. 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, blessed are you, Simon: for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto you, but my Father which is in heaven. Our Father teaches us things that others may not be taught. We are special to Him.

Matt. 18:10 Take heed that you despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. Father God doesn't want any bad thing to happen to us.

Matt. 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: Not only does Father God have good things for us here on earth, He has wonderful things for us in heaven!

Luke 6:36 Be therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. He always gives us a good example to follow. In fact, you will find, He never asks us to do something other than what He is already doing. No, 'do as I say, not as I do, stuff!

Luke 11:13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? He has the best, most important things for us!

Here is exactly what our Father is like -- Luke 15:20-23 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him {The father was anxiously anticipating, with great hopefulness, his sonís arrival}, and had compassion (deeply moved with pity and tenderness), and ran (Speaks of persons in haste, of those who run in a race course, to exert one's self, strive hard, to spend one's strength in performing or attaining something. The word occurs in Greek writings de-noting to incur extreme peril, which requires the exertion of all one's effort to overcome), and fell on his neck (to rush or press upon, to lie upon one, to fall into one's embrace), and kissed him (to kiss much, kiss again and again, kiss tenderly, fervently). {As someone had said, kiss his neck, one of the most tender and passionate places to kiss.} And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight, and am no more worthy to be called your son. But {the father cut him off, wouldnít let him finish what he had planned to say} the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best (first in time or place, in any succession of things or persons, in rank, influence, honor, chief, principal) {the best robe was probably the fatherís own} robe (a loose outer garment for men extending to the feet, worn by kings, priests, and persons of rank, robe of honor, festive) {robe of righteousness}, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand {signet ring denoting the same authority that the father had}, and shoes on his feet {slaves had no shoes, but this was his son, he would have shoes}: And bring the fatted calf {the Ė denoting one specifically set aside}, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry (revel, feast) {all that the father had done was not enough, it was time to party!} Let's revel in our Daddy's love for us!

John 4:23 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

John 5:17 But Jesus answered them, My Father works hitherto, and I work. 19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for whatsoever things he does, these also does the Son likewise. 21 For as the Father raises the dead, and quickens them; even so the Son quickens whom he will. 26 For as the Father has life in himself; so has he given to the Son to have life in himself;

John 6:32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. No fake gifts or false supply from our Dad!

John 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. We are absolutely secure in Daddy's hand.

John 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 6 Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me. 9 Jesus said unto him, have I been so long time with you, and yet have you not known me, Philip? He that has seen me has seen the Father; and how do you say then, Show us the Father? 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 21 He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. What an offer!

John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

John 16:23 And in that day you shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. 26 At that day you shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: 27 For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

Acts 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, you have heard of me. 7 And he said unto them, it is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put in his own power. Our heavenly Daddy NEVER breaks His promises! He is always right on time.

Rom. 8:15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? It is against the law to give adopted children less inheritance than natural ones! Our Father isn't cheap, he gave us the best, so He will gladly give us the rest. He will at times spoil us because He loves us so and He will never put a greater value on a possession rather than on us!

1 Cor. 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

2 Cor. 1:3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort. This Father is not short on comfort; in fact He is the Good of ALL comfort!

2 Cor. 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, said the Lord Almighty.

Gal. 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 Wherefore you are no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Many of us act more like servants than sons. If so, we can expect Him to tell us to quit and start acting like sons.

Eph. 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestined us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he has made us accepted in the beloved. 17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: He has the best gifts, and He picked us out and said, "I want that one!"

Eph. 3:14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man. He is the Father of all creation, but when we chose Him, we become His special children, fully His.

Eph. 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. My Dad can definitely beat anybody else's Dad (unless. of course, we have the same one)!

Col. 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which has made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son. There is no earning your keep here, He made us worthy to partake of His inheritance.

II Thes. 2:16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which has loved us, and has given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 17 Comfort your hearts, and establish you in every good word and work.

Heb. 12:5-10 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks unto you as unto children, My son, despise not you the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked of him: 6 For whom the Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives. 7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not? 8 But if you be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are you illegitimate, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Yes, our Daddy has to spank us at times (we all KNOW we deserve it far more often than we get it!). He will never discipline us more than we need or in anger or abuse us!

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Our Father God only gives good gifts, and whether we recognize it or not, ANYTHING good in our lives is from HIM!

1 Pet. 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 17 And if you call on the Father, who without respect of persons judges according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: Our Father doesn't play favorites, we're all His favorite.

I Jn. 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knows us not, because it knew him not. God didn't HAVE to take us as sons, but He does so because He loves us so much.

Jude 1:1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called. Our Father knows we can never live up to His demands, so He sanctifies us (makes us holy, set apart) so we can fellowship together.

=================================================================

Letís rejoice in our Father. Letís thank Him for being such a wonderful Dad and for choosing us to be His kids!
